Which Side Up?

Recommended Posts

Im very new to western riding (hunt seat refugee) and have a question about the latigo strap for the girth. I bought a nice used Circle Y eq saddle and it didn't have a girth or cinch so I had to buy them separately. I found a nice leather cinch strap that matches the saddle perfectly. So when I attach it, I notice one side of the leather is rough and one side is smooth. Does it matter which side faces up and which side faces the horses body? I use a Weaver easy girth with a roller, will one sideof the leather slip and one side grab more than the other? :questionicon::questionicon: :questionicon:

I generally put the smoothe side on the outside. It looks like it is the inside and outside of a belt. The finished side goes out. It's not so rough that it's a discomfort or anything and if so it'll be obvious which side is for the horse.

The smooth side is for looks, so is on the outside, same as some cheaper reins that are rough on the inside and only finished on the outside

When you attach it though, the rough side will be out, so as you do it up, the smooth side will be out.
