Attempted A Bit Of Tackless Riding

Recommended Posts

Had a little bareback session....then decided to give it a go with the bridle off too!

We weren't too adventurous lol so no exciting pictures....just school figures in walk and a small amount of trot.

I was killing time and making the most of the glorious sunshine!

And on Easter Sunday, we ventured out on a fabulous 17 mile exploring hack down across bridleways we'd not gone before! Found our hunt fences for the end of summer to jump, plus a ford to splash through, couple of logs to pop and an awesome 'step/bank' field to climb up!

Bit boring, but pics none the less of our Easter!

linda tellington jones gave a 3 day seminar at our barn two years ago, and she's a big fan of bridleless riding. she likes a "neck ring" made out of a stiff lasso type rope that gives the horse "air"/space around his neck. I was amazed how it automatically put my entire upper body in the optimal position. no more hands in my lap, no more inside shoulder too far forward, breast bone up. I ride once a week with this thing as a little "tune up" to squelch all my bad habits of which there are many lol! flying changes, shoulder in, all that stuff happens so much more easily when I don't have the bloody reins in my hands haha.

Awesome. I can't say we're that good haha, we just about managed basic figures in walk and trot lol!

My old lad was brilliant at it - he would do everything bless his heart. We even (stupidly) used to hack like it on a few occasions.

I know a 62 year old guy who goes drag hunting on his 10 year old pure Arabian gelding with just a neck ring (!!). beautiful horse that doesn't like anything on his head, but he does everything for his rider with just the ring.
