Silver Dapple Or Chocolate Palomino?

Recommended Posts

I need some help figuring out what color my boy is. I purchased my quarter horse Brodie last year. He is 13 years old. According to his coggins he is a dun but, I just don't think that is accurate. He is a beautiful boy and I fell in love with him the the moment I seen him. His color is just so different. I just don't know what to tell people when they ask me what his color is called. He has a mostly silver mane and tail with some darker streaks in it..he is a chocolate color with some dappling under his coat. In the winter he is lighter. Summer he is darker. You can see the dappling in the summer better. He has some silver hairs through out his coat if you look close. I'm just confused at this point.post-66179-0-71735700-1469394183_thumb.jpg

The easiest way to know for sure is genetic testing. It's not very costly.

I am definitely no color expert - but I don't see a silver dapple out of him or a chocolate palomino. His mane and tail say something else.

I have a palomino who has just darkened over the years - if anything that's what I'd say yours is.

But, like Oz said - if you really want to know, genetic testing.
