What color would look good on this dun paint?

Recommended Posts

I've got a paint horse who is kind of a darker dun, and I'm not sure what color would look good on him.

I've seen him in red, black, and a kind of sandy tan, and I'm not a huge fan of any of them, though I'm not quite sure why - maybe they just don't match his personality or something. Perhaps a blue or orange that errors more on the side of tangerine?

I have never cared for orange hues unless it was on a chestnut.
I think he would look good in blues or greens.

Teal, Aquamarine and Royal Blue are coming to mind.

I bought an aquamarine color and it looks good on all three of my horses.  I have a flaxen mane chestnut, silver bay (looks like a dark palomino) and a bay dun.

A strong mint/aquamarine could do very nice on him.  A good way to test it would be to get 1 square foot of fabric in the color you want to try in cotton.  Just drape it over him and take a picture to look at later and see what stands out.  Then if you're crafty, you can make a small bag out of the fabric to put grooming stuff or treats in.  ;)
